MORRISTOWN, NJ – JUNE 8, 2021 – On June 26, Family Promise of Morris County is hosting Night Without a Bed, an overnight fundraising event and social media challenge to raise awareness for families and individuals experiencing homelessness.
Alongside over 200 Family Promise affiliates across the country, we are urging local community members to spend the night outside, away from the comfort of their bed. Participants can sleep in makeshift tents and cardboard “cities" in their backyard or living room, or even in the backseat of their car.
We encourage participants to share their experience on social media, using the hashtag #NightWithoutABed to spread awareness of the housing crisis taking place in our community. In the lead up to the event, they can also challenge their friends and family to complete the challenge or make a donation to the event online.
“Now especially, people that we’re seeing in need include women that had to reduce work hours to care for their children or who have been laid off due to the pandemic. Even people that were donors before or were able to piece together the funds to keep going can’t anymore,” said Family Promise of Morris County CEO Joann Bjornson, LSW. “We’re working to serve a whole new population that’s in need.”
As the pandemic and worsening housing crisis persist, Family Promise of Morris County seeks to offer both a moment of grief for all that we have lost this year and hope for what we have found — the power of community.
