Community Spotlight: Making Moves Matter

In celebration of April as National Volunteer Month, we would like to thank all our volunteers and partners for the integral support they provide! Without our community’s support, our mission would not be possible.

Our April Community Spotlight will highlight our Making Moves Matter (MMM) team, which is a dedicated volunteer-led division of Family Promise of Morris County.

When our Making Moves Matter Coordinator, Michele Caruso, BSW, moved to Morris County in 2016, she sought out volunteer opportunities through Family Promise of Morris County.

With a goal to continue her work with families and individuals at risk of homelessness, the MMM program was born!

“Making Moves Matter volunteers are an important part of the Family Promise team and a catalyst in providing hope and inspiration for the families and individuals we serve.” - Making Moves Matter Coordinator, Michele Caruso

When permanent housing becomes available, our MMM volunteers work with the families and individuals in our programs to create a functional and welcoming living space.

From gathering new and gently used household items, to cleaning, organizing, decorating, and even stocking the fridge, the MMM team ensures every family or individual has a safe, welcoming space to call home.

For MMM volunteer Patrick Higgins, his favorite part about volunteering on move-in day is “The feeling of satisfaction after a move is done,” and when he is ”driving home and wishing [the MMM Team] could do more.”

Patrick is one of many FP volunteers that so generously give their time and talent in a variety of ways. When he’s not helping with a move, Patrick can be found at our Day Center offering his handyman skills or sorting donations.

This kind, dedicated, and empathetic group of volunteers offers vital support to those we serve at such a key step in their housing journeys. We are forever grateful!

The MMM Team is just one example of the many volunteers and organizations that make our mission possible. Thank you to our network of over 1,600 volunteers and supporters for all that you do!
